President House of India
President House of India
On 26th January, 1950, independent
India became republic. In presiding of Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar the constitution
of India was applied. Dr. Rajendra Prasad became the first President of India.
And a grand building built on Delhi’s Raysina hill was named as President House
of India. It was built for the purpose of expansion in the imperialist power.
But, it was written in its fate to become the part of world’s largest
democracy. In New Delhi, on Raysina hills it is expanded in 300ekad. In many
point of views it is defined as one of the world’s famous buildings. Today, it
is not only the official residence of the President of world’s largest Republic
but it is the largest house of any President in the world. Until 1911, the
capital of the British rule, which ruled India, was Calcutta. But, it seemed to
the Britishers that Calcutta was not right place to rule over such a large
Indian. The English government then started looking for the new capital. And,
their search fulfilled after reaching Delhi.
On 12th December 1911
Jorge Pancham declared Delhi as new capital of British rule. And then, This New
Delhi started to settle down. In this capital, English government was required
an awesome building for the nomination of queen ‘Vaysaray’ to stay which always
keep reminding Indians about royalty and power of British rule. And then there
was a plan to build a grand and luxurious Vaysaray House on the Raysina Hills
of Delhi. Its construction work was in responsibility of British constructor
Edwin Lutyens. But Lutyens hadn’t any idea about it that building which he was
going to construct will not be only a building but it will be an inscription in
history of India. A building which will be not only India’s glorious history
but it will be partner of present and future. After Taj Mahal President House
is second attractive building in India. The constructor of this building Lutyens
was an Englishman but on President House the Indian construction print can be
seen easily. But, from this building we were unable see Hindustanism if that
time viceroy ‘Lord Harding’ never instruct him to do like this. It was
instruction of Lord Harding that the building should be artistic and it should
be mixture of western and Indian form. And he did same as instructed.
When we take a look of this building from a
distance it seems like that the constructer has kept a crown on the top of the
Raysina Hills. It’s a special identity is the Mughal Garden. It is expanded in
13ekad and divided in four parts. The fountains and canal of Mughal garden
reminds us of English construction. The main attraction of this Mughal garden
is varieties of colorful flowers but you can also see different selected flowers
in this garden. This garden opens for public visit in the month of February and
March every year. The biggest centre of attraction of President House is its dome.
However, Lutyens continued to claim
that the motivation for the dome was to get him from the paintings of Rome.
But, the fact is that in the design of this dome we can clearly see the effect
of the stupa of the sanchi styled in the Mauryan period. Other than this the prints of Indian
architecture also appears on the balconies, umbrellas and nets made to protect
the walls of the building from sun and rain. First of all, entering premises of
the President House, there is a longer column of 145 feet which appears in the
right direction of President House and India Gate. It is known as Jaypur Column.
On its top there is a glass star and bronze- shaped lotus flower. The expansion
of this of this column was given by Jaypur’s king. So it was named Jaypur
column. Lutyens had left no stone unturned to make the Viceroy House grand and
luxurious. There are 340 rooms in this building. 1lakh, 30crore has invested to
construct this building. 4year was
targeted to complete this building. More than 330thousand people were busy in
this work but it took 17years to complete.
Before becoming President House this
building was named Government House. When this building was under construction
British rulers were thinking that they will forever rule on India. But after 17
years of completion of this building they left. Only five British rulers were
able to rule India. After freedom of India all Indian leaders were thinking
that what to do with this building. It was named Government House after the
freedom of India. Later, it became President House. And then many President came and gone. Today,
it is increasing the proud of India.
